I Love Food

The author is a food lover.
Message: I've grown up to love and appreciate the food laid out in front of me. My family members love food as much as I do. Its just a pity that my appetite is not as big as theirs. But I do manage to eat a lot when there's really really good food. I love all kinds of cuisine but have a soft spot for anything spicy. I cook for myself when I have the time. I bake for my family. And sometimes its perfect, sometimes its not. I'm not a professional chef, but I do love cooking. The aroma flowing out of the kitchen door is always the best, whereas the aroma coming out of the toilet door after a satisfying meal is not my favourite. There's so much more to know about me. Guess you're just going to have to find out. More about me.

Chocolat World

My mum's friend sent a hamper and there was this cake. She tried it and my siblings downed it all before John and I came back. And since its SOOOO delicious, mum got another four more. LOL!

Love the packing!

Super regal.

Read read. Nice "message" :P

Want to buy? Hehehe I advice you to. No no, I demand you DO because its just SUPER good and if you don't, you have no idea what you are missing out on. The world needs to taste good food like this!

SO MOIST! So delicious.

And what's even better.... hehehe.

Cut yourself a brownie sized piece. Pop it into the toaster (my toaster is like a mini microwave kind). Heat it so that its enough to melt the chocolate and make the outside layer slightly hard, without BURNING it (like DING DONG BEL!) and top it with some VERY good ice cream. VANILLA!!!!!!!!!!

Superrrrrrrrrrr duperrrrrrrrrrr good!

Welcome Home!

DSC01996

My western dinner. Once in a lifetime that the family prepares a full-fledged western dinner.

On the rare occasions that we do have western food on the table, there will be other Chinese staples such as rice, clear boiled soup, stir fried vegetables or meat. This is the first time we had a 100% western dinner.

We had, as shown above, roasted chicken. I know that in Western communities that the chicken breast is the best part of the chicken. But for the Chinese community, the drumstick is the so called "best". And I like both but normally prefer the breast meat over the drumstick because of the less skin/fat. So there was roast chicken, and as you will see later, there was mash potatoes *ultimate YUM!!!* and some vegetables.

Dad roasted the chicken VERY well. It was tender and REALLY juicy. When I poked my fork into my piece, the juices squirted onto my shirt. I'm not entirely sure how he did it because he did it before I came back home.

The mash potatoes is simple. Boil potatoes and then mash them up. Add some salt and milk and mix it up. If you want you may add cheese (but knowing the adults in my family, they wouldn't like it so much, so we left the cheese out) and if you like add some bacon pieces. Dad made this gravy that was SOOOOO good with the chicken AND the mash potatoes. I didn't need the gravy with the chicken because it was already so good on its own. Anyway, it was delicious to the max with the mash potatoes. I'm not sure what was in the gravy but I know for sure that there was minced garlic.

The vegetables were very simple. Put it in boiling water for awhile and then remove. Add some butter and salt to it. And you're ready.

Quite simple actually.

So there you have it. YUMMY dinner.

Sick Food (literally)
The following may cause uneasiness.

This is good to eat when you have a tooth ache, or when you are sick. Or in my case when you just don't feel like cooking up a storm and you are VERY lazy.

Firstly, you need leftover rice... or just go cook rice. You need water and a pot. Put it together and let it boil. and boil... and boil until you get the texture you want.

Figured out what it is?

PORRIDGE! Simple and delicious.

I remove the plain white porridge from the pot and into a bowl. I crack an egg and pour it inside the bowl together with the porridge and mix it in. Its not taking the spoon and stirring it. More like "fold" it in. A tip I learned from my dad. And don't worry, the egg will cook. And even if it doesn't, raw egg is alright.

Then you mix in Marmite, its a yeast extract paste and it comes in a black bottle with yellow label and cap. Different people have different tastes. I don't mind Marmite whereas my brother's housemate doesn't like it. LOL! I can have Marmite soup and be happy... which is just Marmite mixed with hot water.

And then VIOLA! DONE!!!!

And this is how it looks like....

I know it doesn't look THAT appealing but its healthy and it does make you full (subject to the size of the bowl and your appetite)

And if you don't like marmite then you can always put soya sauce and pepper for taste. I just think it doesn't cut it.

What's for dinner and lunch?
Dinner last night, I ate alone. Well it was alright. It was YUMMY actually. I must say my cooking is getting better. *grins* Or maybe its because I'm deprived of good, tasty food. Oh well, but I promise you last night's dinner was good.

What did I have? Hehe.

Simple fried rice with french beans, straw mushroom with meat and chicken.

The fried rice was fried with... RICE, french beans, a bit of soya sauce, a lil of oyser sauce, pepper and a lil bit of chili sauce. HAR!?!?! CHILI SAUCE?!?! Well, you don't know how good it is until you've tried it. Anyway another recipe for fried rice is garlic, egg, chili sauce and cheddar cheese slice. Go try. DAMN GOOD! Add loads of pepper if you like the taste of pepper.

The straw mushroom was cooked with garlic and minced meat. Oyster sauce and a dash of soya sauce (for the taste) and pepper. Simple as that. Cook the garlic until fragrant and then add the meat. Then just add the mushroom and the sauce. Keep stiring until mushroom is soft and you can kinda tell when this kind of mushroom is done. They will give off liquid and it looks a bit starchy.

The chicken was more complex. =P

First you marinate it. Marinade: Marmite, sesame oil, five spice powder, pepper, oyster sauce and a teenie bit of soya sauce. Mix it all up. Marinade the chicken and then coat it with a little bit of flour. And drop into a pan with a little bit of oil. Add the extra sauce and stir-fry until cooked.

If you don't like marmite, you can leave it out, or just put a little bit. Not too much or it'll be too salty and the Marmite taste will be strong. Another marinade would be to substitute the marmite and oyster sauce with "fu yi" chinese fermented beancurd.

And I cooked Seafood Spaghetti for lunch today. *nyum*

The seafood. Something I learned back home. Don't cut the prawn head and throw it away. Keep it and use it to cook soups. It adds A LOT of taste and is absolute delicious. A little water, some chicken stock, prawn heads, prawns (remove shell) and clams (lala). Just throw it all in and let it boil. Once it has, taste it and add salt/pepper to taste. Simmer over low heat.

Cook the spaghetti. Quite basic ok!

And then heat a pan. Add some EVOO (extra virgin olive oil) and minced garlic. Stir until fragnant. Add in the seafood with a little of the soup. Really up to you, how wet you want it or how dry. But must have some of the soup. Add in the spaghetti and stir. Add some salt and pepper to taste. And stir stir. Turn off the heat and pour onto a plate.

VIOLA!!!!

I PROMISE YOU ITS VERY DELICIOUS!!! And what happens if you have extra seafood? Well cook some rice and eat with it. :P Or make seafood porridge. If you make the porridge, best if you have sliced fish to add... YUMMY!!! Or just drink it as a clear soup. Or cook a little bit more spaghetti and finish it!!! **YUMMMMMY!!!!!!!!!**

WHeeee. I've fatten up during the weekend stay here. LOL! Time to lose weight in NTU. Hahahaha. waiting for John to come back... He just arrived, so he'll probably reach in about an hour's time... or less.

Time for a little bit of accounts.
